Created by one of the indie developers who are known to be adept at concocting horror games – Frictional Games, Amnesia: Rebirth offers a gripping essence that is second to none. The game is full of monsters, high tension and unexpected surprises. However, Frictional sees that Amnesia: Rebirth is more than just a mainstream horror game with a terrible atmosphere.
The Swedish developer believes that another attraction of Amnesia: Rebirth is a story that remains interesting to follow even without the accompanying horror elements. Therefore, Frictional finally decided to “get rid of” the horror taste of Amnesia: Rebirth through a new mode called Adventure Mode.
For more details, creative lead Amnesia: Rebirth – Fredrik Olsson explains what Adventure Mode is in a short video uploaded to YouTube. This mode is explained to be removing all threats including monsters and jumpscares. Furthermore, Adventure Mode lowers tension by removing the tense sound effect and brightening up areas or rooms that were previously dark in normal mode.
To replace the missing horror elements, Frictional also added some bonus puzzles to strengthen the mystery genre that was carried without the need to give players fear. This is the answer for players who are afraid of Amnesia’s “mystery quality”: Rebirth is less after the horror elements are removed.
Frictional confirmed that Adventure Mode is currently available for the PC version, followed by the PS4 version next week. This mode is presented as a free update for anyone with Amnesia: Rebirth.
Amnesia: Rebirth is currently available to play on PS4 as well as PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
